Acburn, N. Y., Jan. 14. Tho murderer of Mr. Rogers, in New York, on the morning of December 31, 1868, has just been disoovered ín the persou of a convict in the Auburn State Prison, namcd Francis E. Pintow. Tbe detection of the murderer was brought about by the slirewdooss and vigilanoe of keeper N. V. B. Hoffman, whoge attention was first attracted to the murderer by biü peculiarly nervous appear anee in tbe State shop whero he had been employed. The man is a trsDEferred prioner from Siag Sing, to which prison he was sentenced from Now York ou the 3d of Februsiry, 1869, to five years' imprisonment for grand laroeny. He was transftrced to Auburn last spring. And noticiug his peculiarities Hoñman was struck by remarks by him to afellow conviot iu rolation to tbe Rogers afíair. Piutow was afterwards drawn out by a oonirade at Hoffman'ii instnnce and made a clean brcast of tbe ciroumstanoes conneoted witb tho robbery and murder. Pintow's confession i not yet givcn in dotuil. He in now in solitary eoufinement in a dungeon for misoonduct. The efficers of the prion eay his disolosures are in every way conclusive of his guilt. He is refusing food at present, and declares he will yet cheat the gallows by starration. A CONTRADICTION OOJIES. Piutow, the self-accuscd murderer oí Chas. Rogers, turns out to be only playir.g a trick to be relieved from a dark oell to whioh be had been consigned for misconduct as a prisoner in tbe Aubtirn prison. His confession is a lie from beginning to end. He was confinod in the Tombs at the time of the murder.
