The Democratie County Convention, held on Tuesdoy, oompleted tl; general ticket to be supported at the coming election, April 3d, by nominating candidatos lor Superintendent of Schools and Dram Commissioner. MieiiAEL D. HOWAKD, of Manchester, was nominated for County Superintendent of Schools ; and, which is the best kind of au endorsomeat, over so wellknown und strong a Demooiat as Oimix '1'iia ]i ui:i:, of Sylvan. We are not personally aequaintcd with Mr. IIowakd, but men of both partios who have kmnvn him for years assuro 08 that he is a young man of uncxcoptional character, and thoroughly qualiiicd for the position. Ho is both a practical teacher and' arr exporiencod" school inspector, having held that office sevortil years. He is now in the Law Department of the University, from whioh he will gradúate noxt week. The candidato for Drain Commissioner, David M. Fixi.ky, is well-known in tho central portion of the county, and in fact we may say throughout the county, hiwing boon actively connected with tho Agricultural Society, of which he is now Sccrotary. IIo is an old resident of the county, and possesses the various qualifications neecssary to tho administration of so important an office. Wa hesitate not to say that, if elected, ho will discharge the duties dcvolving upon him faithfully, promptljr, intolligently, honcstly, and as satisfactorily to those interested as is possible : remembei'ing that no Drain Commissioner can satisfy everybody. It is a good nomination. Mr. FiXBHAIiI who has so long and so creditably disehargcd the oncrous duties of tho office, did not desiro a re-clcction. As Washtenaw is a Democratie County ii is only necessary to give these candidatos the Democratie vote to secure their election, and wc hope to be able to report a full vote with tho usual or increascd majorkies in each town. Ecmember New Hampshire and go in to win. - It is time that tho Dcmoerats were stirring themsolves in every town in the county, and niaking ready in carnest for their local dections. The caucuses should be genorally attended, and tho bost and fittest and strongest men nominated, from Supen-isor down to Constable ; and then tho voters shouïd be brought out and the tickets elected. If tho Democracy are caught " napping " now, wc shall not be in good trim for the next general eampaign. " A word" to the wise is suffieient."
