The black ants of Swedcn are a foririilable raco of workers, much larger than we have any hcre. They make sad havoc with the grains, and as they travel in prooeKsion, eaeh with a wheat grain or BOino other dainty tbr winter store, they present a formidable array- a curious spectaclo for the philosophcr. The sting of these ants are sharp and somewhat poisonous. The best policy to observe is; when meeting a pröcession of theso woikers, to turn aside and give them the right of way, for they will grip Hieir graffl tightlv, and give sting aftet sÜngi losing httlo time for rerenge, and then on to their wcll-orderod, well-storcd homes. The Swudes have learned a way of utilir.ing these little ni iwls, sting and all. They waylay them on theso joürneys, cfttch them by hand, and in nets and sieves: tthy way to get theiii, find plunip they go iHto the brandy distilkiy, and on them dependa th peouliat of bwedish brandy.
