In ono initanoe, five tour-hoise teams wero kept hard at work and in jood condition on a daily ration, f'or the twenty horses, of 130 pounds of hay, eight buahels of potatoes, fifty pounds of ineal and a liberal allowance of ohoppod straw. The potatoos were steamed, mashed and mixed with the meal while Uot, and then covered up and allowod to remáis tor a time, during whioh they undergo i dight fennentfttion and evolve a quantity of carbonic acid. The ehopped stii v was worked in just before feeding. This trial was continüèd foi more th;m four months, and ums ïuund to agreo with t!i: horses' while at the same timo it proved satisfactory in point of economy. As this fooi must bo sweot and clean, great caro is necessary to prevent the vessel in which it is kept from boeoming sour.
