The total receipts for th year wore f 89,995. 1 1 ; expenditnres, f87,0150 8:. TIir cost of building new waU was ?1 1,709 08- leaving $72,290 UT expended t'cr tho prison proper. The total eamings of the prison trom November 30, 1870, to Oetober l, 1871, were $78,754 04 againat $90,137 76 last year. The decrease is owing to a cUange in the fiscal year, whertíby two months li!;;s aro reportad. There are :i less nuinher of convicts, and owing to the removal of the State Fair, the receipts f rom visitors are loss by one-half. Dr. J. E. Smith has lookcd out well for the healthy ooudition of the mea. Ampie biithing troughs havo been furnished, in which every man is obliged to bathe once :. weck cluring warm weather. In 1870 two thousand dollars waa expended fot tobáceo, alo, whisky, tea, ooffee and bulter tfaat could be dispensad witk, but toprison. A good choir aids in Uie devotioníil exeroises. The fouialo prisen, nnder charge of Miss F. E. Line, luis lint seven inn fwhom are sontencod for Ufe. This part of the prison is well managedj and ordeí and noatness pravail. The interior of the prison, the workshops, and tho waUsand teneos and oi!ier structuios have become dÚapidated, and a great amount of monoy is requisito to put them in good repair.
