To the Editor of the Detroit Freo Prgpa : Ha viug completed tho investí gation of the prison books, accounts and vouchers, I herewith sond you (with tho approval of tlie prison authorities) a synopsis of tho embezzlements of John W. Hulin, the late clerk of the institution. It is not assumcd that tho figures submitted cover tho entire amouiit of his peculations, as there are many transactions covering largo amounts with dishonesty apparont on the faoe, but for want of corroboration by contra accounts or other ovidence it is impossible to brand thein as such be- yond a doubt. The figures given are, however, substantiated by irrefragable proof of the dishonesty of every act making up tho total. In tho examination, clerical orrors havo been discovered in favor of the prison, to an amuont exceeding the entire cost ot' it, and it has roally cost nothing; on the contrary, the prison has gained by it financially.
