The Garland Forgery
A' Pontiac correspondent writes to the Detroit Advertiser, Nov. 1, concerning the indictments found by the Grand Jury,- "The persons indicied are Wm. M. Thompson, publisher of the Gazctte, H. H. Duncklee, Moses Wisner, nnd Charles Dra per. - When the bill was hrought inio conrt. the defendcnts oñered to go to tria! immediately, but tho Prosecnting Attorney refused on nccount of the absence of Mr. Birney. Au Bir ney wasat Saginnw when the bill was fburiti, it was concluded the grand jury (almost nll of whom were Democrnts) hnd made the presentment witliout anv lawful proof of t)e falsity of the Garland letter. G. W. Wisner, Ãsq.,appearêd as counsel for Mr. Thomp son, and pleaded in abatement, nvernng n IiÃb plea, that llie grand jury had found the bill without ny lawful testitnony pon which to act.
