Beantlíul weather. - All qulet on the Hurón. - Good weather for corn-shucking. - A little rain wanted by late sowed ■wheat. - The Chronicle advlses the purapers to "be moderate." - Bliss & Co. have presented a new regulator to the University, and It marks time in the new chapel. -Barnum's great show Is coming next Moñday, and the tents will be pltched ou the common south-east of the University squure. - The meeting at the Presbyterian church, called for last Friday evening to rent pews and sittings, was neceesanly postponed, aud will be held on Monduy ;vening next. - Failing to eet liberal contributlons from tbeir Radical frlends the colored col lectors "boned" the Democrats for two or three dnys, and thereby succceded In ralsIng money enough to pay a band for yesterday's performance. In noticing the show of grapes made oy Mr. Stebuno, o( Monroe, at the Ypsl lantl Fair, we credlted wlth bim lSKarletles ind sald that no exhlblter at the County Fair had as many. Mr. C. H. We cheerfullvjgive him the bcneüt af the correctionf - "O!d Probablllties" who now-a-days ■dictates the weather írora his office at Washington, took rnercy on the colored Kepnblicans of this city who were unable to get money enough out of their white polltieal bed fellows to secure the Opera House fcr thelr "State Mass Convention,'' flxed them up a beautlful day, and made them independent of their ever sympathetic bnt al ways economlcal - of - material - aid brethren. Words are cheaper and mor plentlful than greenbacks. - James T. Fields, of Boston, Is to lecture before the S. L. A. this evening, In the M. E. Church. Mr. Fields is well known to the reading public as the late editor of the Atlantic Monthly, in wbich appeared his popular and reatlable sketches or reminiscences of Hawthorne, Dickens and other deccased authors of note. His subject this evening is " Tennyson the Man and Poet," and we have no doubt that a rich treat is in store for the lecturejgoing public. - The M. E. Church was so crowded on Saturday evening last that many were unable to get lu. We were among the tardy ones, and, therefore, cannot glve even a brief synopsis of President Angell's very entertaining lecture. In this connection let us suggest to the offlcer3 of the S. L. Athat lf ushers would see that the Beats near the platform are all well flllcd before chalrs or benches are put in the aisles the seating capaclty of the church would be largely Inereased. The pews will easlly seat four and flve cach, and from two to four should not be allowcd to spread unnecessarily unless they pay for extra accommodatlont. We copy the followlng paragraph from the proceedings of the late meeting of the Michigan Synod : " llev. Samuel W. Duffleld, pastor of the churen at Ann Arbor, gave an account of what ha had accompllshed there. When he carne there, there were but few students of the University In attendance. Last-Sunday evening fully onu-thlrrt of the congrepation were students. He proceeded at ome length, givlng the results of his work at that place. " At the close of hls remarks the Modera tor called upon Rev. Mr. Northrop to lead In prayer for the Aan Arbor church and its pastor." The Courier seeks to maleo capital against Mr. Eooers, tho Democratie candidato for Senator, on the score of bis being comijarativoly a new resident of tho Oounty. If wo recollect arigbt tho Eepublicans made Chapo Senator bcforo he had fairly attained a residenco in the State, and then mado him Governor to the exclusión of candidates born an bred in the State. Mr. RoGKltsisacitizei and eligiblc. Tho only question is one o qnalifications, and we can assure the elee tors of Washtenaw county that ho is no laoking in that respect, The "old rosi dent" dodge is about tho only argumen whioh ia used in favor of Childs, and i not worth considering a moment. N Democrat shonld listen to such bosh.
