A writer in Oood News thus íncidentally inentions tlie ourioiia derivatiott of the name "Boston :" "liincolnshirp, or Lindissy, as theïand south of theHumBer waa fonneriy calíed, received the gospel from the good Bishop Paulinas, ih the seventh century, a pUras monk known is St. Botolph, or Bot-hold - that Í8, Bcatliolp- fomded a church at a placo called Tocoun ho. The town wMch grew up around it was called ' Botolph's town,' contracted from Botolphs-ton, Bot-os-ton, and finally Bosto;i. It was from this town that the llev. John Cotton careo to America, and gave the samo name to the seaport in which he settled' in ïïassfichusetts. St. Botolph, or Bont-help, is the patrón saint of sailors, and the spire of the ehurch supports 300 feet high in air, a lantern visible at sea forty milos, thus both lighting the worshipcrs home from the stormy sea, and pointing their wny to the haven of rest." It was under the shadow of that dd church that Jean Ingelow was born.
