J: he .New York Central Eoad proposes to lay, in addition to its present donblü tack, two othcr tracks. Of these four Unes, two will be dovotetl to passenger trains and two to freight trains. The tery great adrantages of thitf plan are easily perceived. Not only will the carrying capaoity of tho road be doubled, but the cost of transportation will be diminished. At present, freight trains, in order to keep ont of tho way of passenger trains, aro compelled to delay for hours wliile waiting on side tracks, and to run at a costly rate of speed whon they have possession of thé road. Thuro would thus be an immense saving in the cost of carrying freight, which, added to the increased facilities for its fraiisportation, Would in a very brief timo repay tho cost of laying the proposed extra track. Whon it is also conüiderééf ihat n large proportion of railwayacöidents are duo to tlie preseuce of fréigïit and passenger trains on the same track, and that the latter are con tinually delayed, to the mjury and vexation of passengere, by the breaking down of heavy freight trains, the advantage of tho new System to the travoling public neod not bo ürged.
