From the Spiingflcld Republionn. Tho same test, the samo opportunity tho same deadly peril that oame to th Democratie party iabeled "Tammany, has coran to tho Bepublican party Iabeled "Credit Mobilier." ïho name only i different; the thingunder itare tho same Crdit Mobilier has stolen millions fron the whole coiintr.y as Tammany stol millions from New York. It has mad itself u eful in elections in tho old Tam many fashion. It bas bought men anc laws aftcr the Tammany recipe. It ha corrupted Congressmen just as Tammair used to corrupt legislators. lts rotten iicss has long been suspected ; a part o: it is now known ; more is going to b known presently. Unhappily, the paral lel does not stop here. Kepublican states men and presses have hitherto with hon orable oxceptions, persistcd in tho sam policy of bilence andapology with regare to it that Democratie statesinen anc presses did with regard to Tammany They, too, have assured the honest mase that it was allright ; that the damaging stories wero mere "campaign slanders" and " sorehead lies." Tho history ani literature of tho recent oanvass are fresh in the public momory ; no intelligent Eepublican has had time to forget how the Republican organs with ono voico lauded Ames as a high toned gentleman and public benefactor, just as Democratie organs had previously lauded Tweed, or how they censured us for printing letters furuished by disreputable McComb. In a word, tho Republican party has undertaken to carry Credit Mobilior. It now finds its load becoming heavier than it had bargained for ; will it throw it down, or will it stagger on under it to destruction.
