The Dowager Empresa Amelia, of Bra1, who died in Lisbon recently, -was the the third daughter of Eugene de Beaxiharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg, who was the son of Viscount Beauharnais and Josephine, nfterwards Empress of Franoe. The Duke, after acquiring great distinction in the service of Napoleon I., retired to the court of his father-in-law, the King of Bavaria. The lato Dowager Empress married, Oot. 17, 1829, Peter I., Emperor of Brazil, who had received the imperial crown about seren years before. In 1831 ho abdicated in favor of his eon, and returned with the Empress tó Portugal. He died Sept. 24, 1834, and the Einpress never married again. Slie resided at tho Porttgnese Court, and y tlie martiago of her brothers and eistois was elosely connected with the reigning houso3 of Ttuesia, Sweden and Gormany. She was a fiíst cousin of the late Napoleon III.
