At about irudnight of Sundáy last the flro bell soünded the alarm and ülcepy citizens were hurried out of thoir beds to tilce a howliug wind ladaa with snow and sleet and rain. The fire proved to ba in thd store- Xo. 43 South Main street - occupied kby Misses BicitABDS & Fobbef, dealers in millinery goods( and dross-makers. By prompt intervimtion of thu fireinen with Mayflower éngiüé the firo was confined to the inside of the building, which wta pretty thoroughly burnoJ out. The adjoining store of Mr. Fan tliï - Xo. 41 - was injured by sinoke to a consid. erable extent, aud the contenta more or less injured. The fire wos diacavered by the ladies namcd above who roomed above their store aud wore wakened by tliö srtioke coming up thi-ougli the stairway and üoors, but ita origin can uot bo satisfactorily accounted for. Mr. Faxtlk owned the building in vfhich the flro originated, and 'ttii insured tó,300 on the same, divided, in Continental, C. H. Muien, $1,800 ; in Hnrtfonl, Z. P. King, 11,600; in Phoouix of Hartford, J. Q. A. Sessio.ws, $2,000. On fix;ures, in Continental, S200. His loss on building ïas been promptly adjusted at $1,734 ; his loss on fixturos) was SüÜO. Mr. F. also o-svnod adjoining store occupiovl ly himself, aud is ïoss - mostly by sinoke - has been appraised at $207. Loss on goods not yot adj usted : The Misses Richards Si Fokbes were insured on stock, $3,000 - L2,000 in tho Underwriters' Agency, and 51,000 in the Phenix of Brooklyn, C. Mack, Agent for both. Miss M. L. Richards also had $1,000 nsurance on furniture, ftxtures and wearing apparel, in Underwriters'; Missos Ji. B. liiciiAEDS and S. A. FoBBEa 11,075 iin ilitná, of Hartford, on HairGooda; and Miss S. A. Fobbes $6óO on wearing apparel, f umi turo, Ofcc, in the Franklin ; all represeuted by Mr. Mack. Tliis insurance indicates a toïoss to the ladies named - if not over-insurod- of f7,587. Tho Masonic Hall was in thn third story of the block, and the damage to furnituro, carpeta, regalia, &C-, has been adjusted at Í7.
