He brought the proceas of raunufacturo to its present perfeetion, and was the inventor of the prooess of winding it on spools for consumers, Like all inventors Mr. Clark was a self-niade man. He commenced business in a small room, but hia improvements were so valuable that his business seemed only liuiited by the capaci ■ ty to supply the demand of consumer?, and for years before his death ho was at the huad of tfcelargest and most eelebratcd fiietory in the world. He was the moans of converting his native village of Paisley into a great and prosperous man ufacturing center. Mr. Clark a few years ago nssocinted bis son ia the business which is now continued under tho name of Clark & Co., and its agenoies are established all over the world - in Kussia, Germany, Franco and othor parts of Europe, and in South America and the United States.
