The fbïlow-inii is a sunimary of the conditioii of the winter wheat, just issued frora the Agriouliural Department : On the iirst week of April, a consideraablo portiou of the northeru belt of tho winter wheat area was covered with snow. The condition of that visible gave proiuise of general esemption trom winter injury, leaving the erop subject to the meteorologieal vicissitudes of April. In the Middle States a great iraprovement upon the showing of last spring is everywhere oonceded, espectally in New Jersey and Peunsylvaniu. The prospecta in the States soutb, of Marylaud are less favorable than last year, and thoro are indications of a diminishing area in tho cotton States, although the abreage is not intended to begiven in this report. Michigan, the only State of tho northern border in whiah winter wheat 13 rnainly grown, presenta a green and vigoroug growth, wherever snow has disappeared to reveal it, and Ohio niakes far more favorable returns than last yeay. In Kentucky a more cheokered showing is sade„ giving tho prerent appearance a cTecidedly unfavorable cast, with indica tions of future improvement as the weather becomes settled. In Indiana und IUinois.the unfavoral.le returns out-nuuiberd the rose-colored. The dry autumn retorded peediug and germination, and left the plauts too weak and shullow-rooted to endure well the effects to the winter's cjianges of temperature. 8irailar causes affect the condition of wheat in Missouri, liut a great improvement over last ycaris ipported,. and a still more fnvorable conItion exists in Kansas. In Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska, as is known, very little winter wheat is produced, but full reports are given of such eeriments.
