The notes on "Recent Literature" are unusually full and interesting, while the sual pages are given to Art, Mnsio, and Politics. The number begins the XXXII. volume. 84 a yoar, James R. Oagood & Co., Boston. Scribner opens with the first of the promised papers on "TheGreat South," by Edward Kiug, being the New Route to the Gulf, with glimpses along the M. K. & T. Railroad from its initial poiut as far as Sherman in Texas- 44 illustrations ; followed by Low Life in Berlín, by William .Wolls, also illus. ; The Liberty of Protestantism, by an Orthodox Minister ; What has America done for Woman, by Mrs E. W. Sherwood; Arthur Bonnicastle, XVI. - xvni., by J. G. Holland, in which comes the great trial and struggle oL the principal character; Eleanor "Dane, by Adeline Tratton; The Religious Sentiments of Abraham Lincoln, by Rev. J. A. Read, in which the Spiritualistic views and practices of A. L. are ontirely ignored ; A Ten Day'r Drama, by Kate Putnam Osgood ; Recollections of a Restored Luuatic, by Dr. Stephen "W. Newell ; with pocms by Geo. MacDonald, A Spiritual Song ; by G. P. Lathrop, The Song Sparrow; by B. P. Taylor, Tlie Vane on the Spire ; by Charlotte F. Bates, Treading the Circle; and by Anuie R. Annan, The Christ. The minor departments are full of readablo and seasonable things. $4 a year. Betsey Tricrgs, or Rescued from Shame, and Octavia Solara, are both continued, and with unfiagging interest. Among the completed papers are; Genius and Charactcr of Kobert Burns, Familiar Glimpses of Old England, For Christ's Sake, Charities of Philadelphia, Abel-el-Kader, Suburban Life, Tired of House-work, Home Missionaries, ete., whüe the Editorial page8 are pressed full and running over.
