New Ori.EAns, July 1.- A privato disputen trom Buy St. Louis states that a duel was t'ought near Montgoinery station this foreuoon between ex-Judge Wrn. II. Cooley and 11. 15. Rhett of the Pkayune, in which Jüdge Cuoley was killed at the seoond shot'. The difficully grew out of an aitielo published iu tho l'icayune ncaded " Hawkins versus Pkaynne" and a rtiply froni Judge Cooley published iu the Times of tho 27th. Col. Ehett was not touched. It is understood that Rhett was challengod. The partios fought with double-barrel shüt-guus, loaded with ball, at a distance of 40 paces. MOMTGOMERY STATION, MÍSS., July 1. -In the lihett and Cooley duel Juilgx; Cooley was killed atthesecond fire. The parUes tnived tt this placo on tho same train at 10 o'clock this morning. Mr. lihett was aocompanied by Messrs. Chis. Koiuan and Dr. Bruns, and Judge Cooley was atteuded by Col. Geo. W. Carter and Maj. McEae Selph. At the iirst tiro Rhett's snot ranged high, Cooley 's to tho right. Cooley delivered his fire first. At tho gecond firo both fired siuiultaneously, and Cooley teil mortally wounded by a shot entering his left siiie, and passing apparently through the heart. Ho exyiivü in sis minutes without appaient suü'uriug, only speaking the words to Dr. Holliday, " 1 ain shot throngh the breast." Tho gentlemen engaged iu tho afl'air exchaiifftd the usual civilities after the second fire, and aeparated with exiressions of mutual respect and consideration.
