A certain lady of this city found herself in a great strait sometime since, bj" the uncerenionious vamoosing of he hired girl. She (the lady) was the indulged child of opulent parents, and had never been taught how to gct up a " square ineal," in faot, waa utterly incapaciUted tor the dutibs of a housewife, and whèn her "girl" took her departure, countlesi and vexatious troubless were inauaugurated in that hitherto well-regulaand methodical household. Evory exertion was made by the lord of the mansion to procure other help, but to no avail: and actuatedby sheer desperation, the lady finally sallied forth herself in quest of a girl. As she was hurrying along ouo of our principal streets, she suddenly carne upon a tidy lcoking woinan, with sleeves rolled up to her elbows industriously engaged in washing the windows of a sooiewhat preteutious looking dwelling. Halting instanter, the lady inquired of the woman whether she could teil her where she could hire a girl. The woman replied that he could not. The lady then said ; " Well, can't you give tip your placo here V I will give you a half dollar inoro than jou are now receivinp, and insure you stoady and permanent omployment." Tho woman replied that she was well liked by her employfir and pleased with her home, and could not be induced to leave it for any consideratión. Convineed that all importunily would prove futile, the lady indignantly turned her back on the woman and disappeared up the street. Her feelinga may b,e imagined when she learned that the woiiian she had urged to become her hired girl was the mistress of the house whose windows she waa cleaning, and the wiïe of one of our esteemed and highly respected citizens. - Toledo Commercial.
