As two of our city congregations have recontly i istened to diseourses {rom a couple of the graduatos of 18.31, we havo gathered a few items conceriiing them that may be of interest to soine of our readers. Messrs. E. D. Pahkee and H. Coedlet went Torn the University to Andover Theologicai Seininary, remaining tliere three years. ín 1857 they went as Home Missiouaries to Kansas, where tlio contest with slavery had alroady jegun. Mr. Pabker organized the ürst Con'regational Church of Leavenworth, staying ;wo years ; and then labored. eight years as pastor of the church at Wyandotte, whero he Duilt a church, and literally stood guard upon the Border during the war ot Kebellion ; periling his life for years as a preacher of righteousness amid scènes of violence and bloodshed. His present residenco is Manhattan, Kausus, where ho ïias lor tix years been the husy pastor of a largo parish and growing chureh, addmg to his other duties during three years past the labor of Regent and 8ecretary of the State Agrioultui'al College : a tiourisliiug institution with ;welve instructora and two hundred students. He has just eujoyed his first vacation in sixteen years, and attended the Golden Wedding of his Darenta in Hillsdale Countv. Ilev. R. COSDLEY has boen favoreil witli the most suucessful pastorale in Kansas. His churrh, the Plymouth Congregational of Lawreace, is tlie oldest m the State, and he is completing his sixteonth yeur oí labor with them. During sacking and burning and niassacre, he has been permitted to cheer and guide the people of tliat historie town. His house, library, sermón, everythiiig but the simple clothing with wliieh he and his family escaped to the forest, were burned at Quantrei's Raid; and during the war he too stood as ' Home G-uard," sleeping upon tlie ground, with his trusty carbine at his side. He has a beautiful house of worship costing forty-four thousand dollars, and his church numbers over tour hnndred members. Last year he was permitted toreoeivo 138 and baptizo 76 members at one time. At the close of ritteen years of labor his people presented liim with a costly and elegant service of silver. His salary is J2,500. During these sixteeu years his inñuence has been lelt throughout the State ; more churches and ministers have looked to him for advice and counsel than to an elected Bishop. At the buruing of the Fort Scott church, last year, he was able to send the greeting of his church and six huntlred dollars, taken at a singie collection, without previous notice. During bis vacatious intelligent laymen occupy his desk. Mr. Parker and Mr. Cordley were among the originators, and from the first have baen trustees, of Washburn College at Topeka, that bears the same relation to Kansas that Olivet College doe to Michigan. By a fortúnate coincideuce these college classmates and seminary ohums, have spent a vacation together in our Michigan Athens. The American and Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph Companies have issued an appeal for public patronage. They claim the credit of the recent reduction in ratea, hope to coiripel a further coming down, and want the business of all opposed to monopolies. Their office in this city is at the store of J. R. Webstisk & Co. Tho united congregations of the Presbyterian and Congregational churdics will meet next Sunday moruing in the Oongregational ehuroh, and in the oveuing in the Preabyterian. The inorning service will be conduoted by Hev. l V. DuiTIBLD, the ovening service by Professor Cuase, of Fisk Uuiversity.
