Muir, Mich., September 5. - The following is the verdict of the coroner's jnry upon the bodies of those killed in the Muir disaster : otate of Michigan, Covnty of Wcuthienaw. Au inqu'est takun at Muir, in said county, on the 29th of August, A. X. 1873, before Henry Staley, ono of the Justices of the Peacü of said county, upon the view of the bodies here lying dead, Elizabeth Kretschmarik, Joseph Kretschmarik, j Ellika Johan, Adotter Hed and Anna Mathilda Hed, by the oaths of the jurors whose narues are hereto subscribed, who, being swoni to inquire in behalf of the people of tliis State, do say in their opinión that the above named persons carne to their death by a colusión, on the 29th of August, of the night freight, number 13. going west colliding with the nighf express number seven, being disabled by a broken engine, about one and t'curth miles froni Muir, in said county, on the Detroit & Milwaukee Eailroad ; and that these nanied persons were passBngers on said express and were not residents of this S'ate. Also, iu our opinión, that William Brown, a brakfctnan, is eriminally guilty of disobeying the orders of Conductor Frar.k Knill, who wh-s haak SOi) yiLi-ds. the distance required by the company to flag a train, and there told Brown to go back further, that he was not back half far enough. He crossed Strong Crtek bridge with flag, and when Knill was out of sight he returned with flag to the west side of bridge, sat down. and waited for the traiD. And further, that conductor, James Sheeran, engineer H. F. Montreul, and braketnan Edward Cotney and Wilson Law, of said freight train, are guilty of criminal negligence ; the engineer of running at a much greater rate of speed than the rules of the railroad company allow, tbe conductor for not having the brakeinen at their posts, and said brakeraen for not beiug at their posts. In testimony whereof, the said Justice of the Peace, and the jurors of this inquest, have heranwto set their hands, this fourth day of September and year aforesaid.
