Washinoton, Sept. ltí. - Admiral Pennock, cominanding the North Pacific squadron, reports that he has liad several friendly talks with the Alaska Indiana. Many of the chiofs have visited the Bhip, and seemed to be impressed with the importance of being on good tornis with the United States. ïhere are only a fow American traders located at the head waters or in the vicinity, and there is no settleraent except at Sitka. The Admiral visited Sitka, and reuiained seventeen daj-s, during three-fourths of which thero was hard rain. The population has much decreased, and therct bas been a great falling off in the trade. Exclusive of the garrison there are not more than three hundred inhabitants, uiostly Russians and half-breeds. For some years past there has been bad blood betweon the Stikine and Chilicot tribes, and when at Eoline liarbor Eear-Admiral Pennock was solieited by a Stikine chief to use bis good offices in bringing about a reconciliation. The Admiral talked the mitter over with the chiefs of the Chilicots, whom ho found ready to bury tho hatchet. .
