Don Piatt tells a good one at the expense of Michigan's favorite Senator - Zack Chandler. It is this : While traveling in France he met a distinguished American official to whora ho coinplained that the hotels persisted in charging him for buggies, that he was willing to pay for buggies whenever he ordered or had the use of any, but that he had never had nary buggy. Asking to see his bilis, the official discovered that it was bougies (or candles) not buggies which the great blood-letter had had and been oharged for. It is supposed that the explanation was highly satisfactory and caused the Senator to abate his indignation. - At a late Eepublican Convention in Allegan county delegates were elected to the Fifth District Congressional Convontion, to be held at Grand llapida to-day, and instruoted to vote for Judge Williams, of Allegan. And are the claims of the multitude ot' hungry Eepublicans of Grand Eapids to be thus ignored by the suckers of Allegan ? - The platform on which the New York Democracy are waging the f all oampaign is a model both in expression and statement : clear, concise, square - just the words for the crisis. It puts the two-sided or doublé ender of the ïtepublicans to shaine. - Don Henderson has discovered a Democratie plot to carry the Fifth Congressional District, at the special election to be held November 4th, by a majority of 2,000. We hope that Don does not " see through a glass darkly." - The creditors of ex-Senator Pomeroy have commenced suit againat the Lieutenant-Governor and Treasurer, to recover that $7,000 which " Old Pom " says he entrusted to Yorke to start, that National Bank. - Torn Scott has telegraphcd home from Europe that he has succeeded in negotiating a loan of $40,000,000 on the first mortgago bonds of the Texas Pacific Railroad. And this sinco the crash. Doubtful. - $127,000 a year! That is the sum the " second Washington," alias President Grant, costa the people a year : $50,000 as salary, and $77,000 for servants, furniture, fuel, lights, etc. An expensive luxury. - On Saturday last ex-Kepresentative Cooway shot at but didn't kill exSenator Pomeroy on New York avenue, Washington.
