Frora the Detroit Free Press. Michigan Centeal Cattle Yards ) Monday, Jan. 19. ) The market was a quiet one tliis week, receipts being very ligh't in cattle and hogs, and but few through cattle for shipments East. Shipment of local lots purchased at Yesterday's market was very brisk this morning. Receipts for the week and corresponding week last year were as follows : Cattle. Hogs. Sheep. Week ending Jan, 19, 1874, 3G1 188 8,312 Week ending Jan. 20, 1873, 7Ó3 3,608 4,200 Via Chicago and Joliet 830 lieud of cattie were received ; hogs, none. CATTLE. The offerings were small to last week, having a very wide range of qualities. The supply, however. was lighter and "competition quite brisk. Butchers' stock and shipping lots brought about the same prices. Choice beeves, best quality, brought $5 25 to 5 50 ; medium, $4 50 to $5, and thin cattle by the head at about $3 75 per hundred. A bunch of five head, ayeraging 1,500 lbs, sold at ïó 50. Choice shipping lots, averaging 10,000 and 11,000 lbs, brought 5 25; medium qualities, $4 25. Offerings were about all taken at close of market. HOOS. A few bunches were iu the pens, but all light weights, and buyers were indifferent about making purchases. Of heavy weights none can be had in the State, and packers receive consignments froni the Chicago market- that is, such as are suitsble tor the trade. The lotsinwere held at f 5 25, but few realized more than $5. SHEEP. There was an extraordinary volume thrown upon this market during the week, which indicates that the run is oarlier than last year. The improvemeut in quality noted of late was preserved throughout, more fine lots being in during one week than ever before. Prices were somewhat weakened under the pressure, the last lots selling at about 1-5 c off. Choice lots sold at $5 to 5 25 ; medium, f4 50 to 4 75, and common lots to vendors, by the head, at $4 per hundred. Kino's Cattle Yaeds, } Detboit, Monday evening, Jan. 18. J CATTLE. The niarket was materially affected by the rain this morning, holders of butchers' stock knowing that buyers would not bid as freely with a prospect of warm weather before them, and consequently pref erred to sell than hold over, although the offerings were uot as heavy as last week, Choice shrpping cattle were purchased freely at about prices last given.
