From the Detroit Free Press. Michigan Cextbal Cattle Yabds i Monday, Jan. 26. Reeeipts were quite heavy this week, unloading and reshipping coutinuing without intermission from the close of the previous week. The quantity in transit would seem to indícate that tho Eastern markets are now being drawni upon quite heavily. Tho demand here, though, was but ordinary, the lots shipped being mostly from the northwest. A temporary damage to the through routes during the late thaw sent a good many car loads of stock back to the yards, but they were soon sent forward again. This time last years the roads suffered an interruption by a heavy snow storm. Receipts for the week and corresponding week last year were as follows ; Cattle. Hogs. Sheep. Week ending Jan, 26, 1874, 34B 488 2,150 Week ending Jan. 27, 1873, 498 2,112 2,540 CAITLE. Sales were slow and dragged along to the close of markets. Soliera held tenaciously to their prices, but were ultimately compelled to shade somewhat. The qualities in the yards presented both extremes of grade and buyers found lots to suit. The local demand was for a lino article of butchers' stock, which exchanged hands at $ö 25. Shipping lots, choico quality, brought 85 to Ï5 10 and medium quality $4 to $4 25. Light cattle sold for Ï3 to Ï3 60, but went slow. Shipments East were brisk this moming and but fow lots remain in the yards. HOO0. l- I Thero is no chango to be noted in this department, but few lots coming in other than light store hogs. Heavy weights are quoted at $5 25 and light at Si 75. The few car loaos rcoeived during the week were mostly taken by local buyers. One thousand nine hundred and twenty-four hogs wore received for transhiproent to Eastern points, being the only choice lots in. SHEEP. Maintained a better price than one would think after the extraordinary receipta of last week. Though last week's prices were shaded a litte, sales were moderately brisk. Choice qualities brought $5 to 85 50 and medium $4 to $4 25, Sales by the head were quite numerous, some bringing the above prices. Kixa's Caitle Yaeds, DETEOIT, Monday ovening, Jan. 26. $ CATTLE. The yard8 were not well filled, tut tlie quality of butchers' stocks averaged better and the market was rather quick, with better prices. The shipping demand was very light, owing to the inability to ship East, the bridges beiug swept away by the late freshets. The following quotations were all sustained : Ghoice beeves, young, large, well iattenod, weighing from l,20ü to 1,400 lbs. ïl 00 o 5 60 Uood beeves, well fattened, steers and heifers, averaging 1,050 to 1,100 lbs, 3 00 a 3 75 Medium grades, fair steers, averaging 950 to 1,050 lbs., 2 50 a 2 75 Working cattle, well fattened, averaging 1,000 to 1,500 lbs., 3 25 a 3 75 Cows, conamon to choice, 3 00 a 4 00 Common stock, medium steers, and fair to extra cows, in deceut flesh, 00 to 1,000 lbs., 2 00 o 2 75
