At a meeting of the Common Council held on Wednesday evening, the following communication was received from the City Treasurer : Office of the City Tbeasubeb; Ann Arbor, January 28, 1874, Hon. II. J. Beakes, Mayor, Dear Sir . - Finding it impossible to close up the collection of the taxes within the Ufe of my warrant, without pressing or distressing the tax-payers more and harder than seems to me advisable these " tight times," I respectfully ask through you of the Common Council au extensión of time for the period of thirty days, in order that the one hundred and more tax-payers yet in arreara may have time to "gather in" the requisite suma charged against them. An extensión wil! greatly incommode me personally and is only wanted to accommodate the tax-payers. Yours, E. B. POND, City Treasurer. The request was granted and a resolutiou adopted extending the time for the collection and return of taxes uutil March lst ; but as 15 per cent. must be charged upon every tax not paid by to-morrow night tax-payers will find it for their interest to make prompt payment. The amount outstanding yesterday noon was about $4,200. The Ypsilanti Sentinel gets off the f ollowing : Speaking of the secta of Methodists, reminds us of a conversation we lately overheard between a couple of " Sisters." Passing the corner of Washington and Ellis, the one asked : " Is this a f ree Methodist Church P " " Oh, no ! This is a Methodist Eespectable Church." Perhaps she spoke ignorantly; and perhaps she thinks " respectable " and " Episcopal " synonymous terins. Wc believo it is an Ypsilanti lawyer who tells a good one of an Ypsilanti " bradder." Being charged with unbesoming acts - that is witb. being himself frail or associating with frail ' sisters " - he sought a lawyer's aid and counsel, introducing himsell as the Eev. Mr. , to the no great astonishment of the disciple of Blackstone, who failed to recognize any ministerial cut of the jib or cast of countenance. "You a minister," said our friend the lawyer. "Ye?, sah," said Bro. ■ ■ - ■. "What, you the minister of Church ? " " Wall, not zackly a regular ordained minister, but a licentious pusson ; " which innocent confession closed the colloquy. The Ypsilanti " brudders " are as greatly puzzled over the word " licentiate" as the " sisters " over " Episcopal." At the late meotiug ot the State Graiige of the Patrons of Husbandry, Washtenaw County was given the following representation on the regular or standing Committeo : W. W. Williams, of Lima, on the Finance Committeo ; J. Webster Childt, of Augusta, on Committee on Besolutions (chairman) ; John J. Kobison, of Manchester, on Committeo on Transportetion and Co-operation ; B. Campbell, of Salem, on Committee on the Goodof the Order. The Ypsilanti Commercial thus chronioles what it terms a " monstrosity " : " A six months' baby was bom in the Fifth Ward ot this city reeently. Some months previous, the mother, being in a weak and nervous state, was terribly atartled by a horrible falsefaco worn by a person who came in unannounced. The face of tho child (still-born) was an exact counterpart of the false-face, and was covered with a natural veil. Too much caro cannot be taken to avoid all excitements and disagreeable impressions in.these cases."
