Frora the Detroit Free Press. Michigan Central Cattle Yaeds ) Monday, Feb. 16. J Tho market continúes to be liberally supplied with fair qualities of stock. This depends chiefly from where shipments are made, the best qualities coming from remote sections of the State where it is moro profitable to convert grain into meat. It can be set down as a rule that if a choice article of live stock is desired the buyer must visit localities where there is a cheapness of feed. tlnfortunately for lovers of choice meats th ere are numerous citablishments that buy poor qualities, thereby encouraging the offering of such qualities in the market, and establishing a regular demand. Iteceipts for the week and correspouding week last year were as follows : Cattle. Hoga. Sheep. Week ending Feb. 17, 1873, 611 1,791 1,350 Week ending Feb. C6, 1874, 425 288 4,588 CATTLE. The market opened dull'aud unsettled but by eleven o'clock a break was made by a few regular operators, which was followedby considerable activity on the part of smallerj, buyers, who were inspired thereby. The first lots were secured some 3-8c under the following sales : 12 head, averaging 1,100 lbs, $5 ; 16 head, averaging 1,040 lbs, $4 50 and a few bunches, averaging from 800 to 900 Ibs, medium, $3 75 to 4. The quality in was fully up to the fonner week and caused the railroad agents to exert themselves to find a sufficient number of cars. The home demand was very light. H0O8. The supply continúes light, all heavy lots being received from the Chicago market, as formerly. Anything choice in this line must be hunted up in Northwestern regions, remote from railroad communication. Heavy weights command $6 and medium 5 25 to 5 50. The bunches sold here were mostly pigs and brought aixrat $5 25. SHEEP Were plentiful and presented every shade of quality. Sales were active under the foliowing prices : First class lots, averaging 110 lbs, $6 to 6 25 ; medium, averaging 80 to 90 lbs, $5 25 to 5 50. Inferior qualities were closed out by the head.
