If it is not too late we should liko to remind our legislators at Lansing ot' the fate of the proposed oonstitution submitted to the people by the convention of 1867. There was nearly 40,000 majority against it, but it was not defeated on its merits as a whole ; two or three provisions which might as well have been either left out or submitted separately were what killed it, If a provisión for wonian suffrage is submitted it should be submitted separately. JL the anti-license provisión is to be voted on it should be done separately. So also should the proposition for a heavy tax on the liquor traffie. And, iniact, itisbettor to subinit all questions separately about the approval of which thero is any doubt. The body of the reviscd consitution should not be made a pack-horse to carry all sorts of hobbies and isms. It should bo rememberod that of two ïneasures the friends of one may be the onemies of the other, and that though either might be carried by a direct vote separately on its merits, to put thein both into the instrument might dofoat it and thein together. f wo can frame an improved constituion let us try to havo it ratified, by not omplicating it with issues which will rovoke the combined opposition of half i dozen hoadstrong factions.
