A visitor of tho Chinese theater, iu San Francisco, does not seem to be particularly charmed by the Mongolian drama. - He says : " Battle scènes aro stock ingredients of the Chinese drama, and are oonducted on a principie totally at variance with all our modern ideas of warfare. It is no uncommon fuat for tho hero to dismiss bis army, and, singlo-handed, conquor the enemy, merely using his soldiers as a pursuing forcé. Tho stage, which is limited, in that the orchestra occupy nearly the whole of it, is merely a platform flanked by tho walls of tho house, iit up by somo four or five footlights and two attenuated gas-pipes pendant on eithcr sido of the house, which termínate in numerous gas jets far more useful than ornamental. In tho rear a screen, fostooned, with speara. armor musical instruments, and diabolieal characters.serves as a partition to veil the dressing-rooms and green room from tho eyo of the casual observer, and two curtained doors aro tho means of exit and entrance. It has never been our misfortune to hear the overture, if ono be played, but judging by the descriptivo music and singing during the progress of the play, which would mako an excellent accompaniment for wandering minstrel cats, nothing hag been lost."
