The Toledo and Aun Albor Rnilrond. Tho public generalij", aud the stockholders of tlio Toledo and Aun Arbor Eailroad Cnmpany in particular, feel great anxioty to know what are thc conditions and prospecta of an enterprise upou which raany of thera have expended inuch timo and monoy. In the ill-feeling which has been engendered in the various stages of this work, and which still exists to a large extoiit, if not indeed larger than ever, thoso persons wlio concur in the statements of this articlo will not allow iheniselves to particípate ; they prefer to take a positiou quite nbovo tho low level of more faultfinders, kuowing as thcy do that no onterpriso of such magnitude, in the prosocution of which adverso ïntorests are to be encountered, can be carried on without a great amouut of friction. For tliis they will not undertako to fix tho blamo upon any person or party. Dropping all feelngs unworthy of magnauimous minds, wo eim)Iy desire to place before the board and tho pubic the one and only practical questiou : Hvw an thc work be brovghl to the hest and most pecdy termmation t Tho present board has been ui existonce uow learly four years. Noarly a year after their elcction, it being clcar that thoy had as yet done nothing, and fully aware that their inaction rew naturally from a certain conviction which ;hey feit that they were not sustained by the oonfidence aud good feeling of tho great body of tho stockholders, a movement was made which e-assurod them, and the work was entored upon, and has been prosocuted until the road-bed is nearly ready for tho iron ; but it has beon suspended and still rosts. Why should this be? The panic, which has paralyzed mO6t enterprises of this kind, may well bo pleaded in justitication f this suspension, but spring is opening, business activity will doubtloas return with the seaon, and we are convincedthat if supported by a ocided and good-natured expression of public 'eeling tho board will be able to find tho means of resuming the work. What is in tho way ? Do the members of the ireseut board fooi embarrassed by the large amount of stock leit on their hands which they lad taken with the expectation of transferring it o others ? Let them fcel assured that thc larger and botter part part of the etockholders will do all they can legally and fairly to relieve them rom this embarrassment, if the work can but 0 on. Does tho board desire any changes in its wn niembership F While wo hoiiestly doubt whether any ono realfy wishes a place in the board, we still think that there might be found hose. who would accept places ií convinced that t was boat. Will tho board arrange for a lair and fricndly interview with leadiug stockholders on this subject ? We have not the slightest loubt that such proposition would bo met in the riendliest spirit by great numbors and indeed all he largo stockholders, and at least the board ould elect whom they would cali to such a concrence. It never was much expected that the stock of his road could pay largoly if at all ; but if the work could be completcd, and mauaged by a ood company, competiug with the Central, or ven by the Michigan Central itself, every stockïolder could feel that ho had gained by such reult, even if he lost most or even nll the value of lis stock. If theïoforo tho public could seo some movement towards an arrangement with one of these reat companies, there would be a general feelïg of satÍ8faction. lt has been intimated that if ae Detroit bridge should fail, - and it is clear that 1 the interest of navigiition it ought to fail, - he Michigan Central would seek a more direct onne ction with Toledo, and there would be ono so good as by the Toledo and Aim Arbor ïailroad. Shall the public hear from the board n any of tho points suggested above 'i Anything t all feasible and proniising, in which the board hall be disposed to move, we have no doubt will e met by the public, and especially the holders f stock in a spirit of fricndlinoss and f uil and cor,ialco-oiieration.
