Mauy young people think an ïdle hfe tuust be a pleasant one ; but therc are uone who enjoy it so little, and are such jurdeus to thuinselves, as those who have uothing to do. Those who are obliged to work hard aü day enjoy their short periods of rest and recreation so ruucu that they are apt to thiuk if their whole life ware speut in rest aud recreation it would be the most pleasant of all. But th8 is a sad mistake, as they would soon iud out if they made a trial of the lite they think so agreeable. Oue who is never busy can never enjoy rest, for rest ïmplies a relief frum previous labor; and f our whole time were spent in amusing ourselves we should find it more wearisome than the hardest day 's work. Eecreatiou is only valuable as it unbends us ; the idle eau know nothing of it. Many people leave off business and settle down to a hfe of enjoyment ; but they enerally fiud that tbey, are not nearly so lappy as they were bofore, and they are otteu glad to return to their old occupations to escaüe tbe miseries of indolence
