Washington, May, 1G - A dispatch dated yesterday saya : The President today unequivocally oondemned the currency bilí passed by the Senato. He considered the bilí, as originally reported by tha financo comtnitteo, a moasuro of coinpromise, and though not such a mensure as he would wish, had been passed to próvida for specie payment, yet he would havo been willing to accept it as a comprornise with the South and West. The amount of iasue he looks upon as a stepping in the wrong direction, aud an attempt on the part of the inftationists to claim by a new demand what he clearly refused to recognize in his last veto message. He now urges the House to have the bilí so amendcd as to make it consistent for him to sign it in the event of the Senate concurring in the amendment. The President also desires that Congress shall do something, if only to give effect to ■ the re-distribution act. Bither this or the original Senate bill will receive his approval, otherwise his veto can be relied upon.
