The Traverse City Ilerald saya that last mouth two or threo citizens who were inolined to favor the extensión of the ballot to romen, prepared the following circulnr, whieh was lefï ut every house in tlie village : " To the todtetj oniy : Bhall the woiuen of Michigan beallow. ed to voto 'i Tlie men of the State are to answer this question at the next election. Tliere are many voters that vrotlld like, if pouible, to know whioh way tlie mimen would tlieriiselvfts desire the question shall be üecided. Now theu we propose, if possible, to uscertain liow the ladies of Traverse City stand in regard to this important inquiry. We are sendiug one of these to evury house in the village. There ia a slip of paper inelosed with questiona that we want answered yes or 110. We wish all women twenty-ono years of age and over, actual residents of the village, to vote understandingly you will see the arguments both for and against the movement very fully and fairly stated in this week's Jleruld and Eagle. We will sond the ballot box to every house on Monday, June 2i)th. Mease have those entitïed to vote answer the questions honestly and conscientiously. Fold the paper up so as not to delay the man when he calis for them. The trosult will be published. wf By order of the coinuüttee." 'WOMAN'S BALLOT IN EEGARD TO WOMAN SUFFKAGE. lst. Do you want tovote? 2d. If No to the first question answer this : In case it should be decided that wouien bo allowed to vote would you vote on questious of temperance and moral or political reform ? " The res uit of this novel canvass of opinión is thus stated by the Ilerald : " On Monday the ballots were gathered up with the following result : ' Do you want to vote 'f Yeas, 42 ; nays, 95 ; blanks, 66. It is admitted that the most emphatic nays are those who returned the blanks, and to these must be added about twenty-eight who would not even return the ballots, which gives us yeas 42, nays 189, or about one in five. Our conviction is that on a fair, full and accurate vote in this village about one woman in six would declare in favor ot' woman suffrage. ün the socond question the yeas ; were 109, nays 34, blanks 53- a bare majority, only declaring that they would : vote 'on questions of temperance or moral and political reform' if the ballot is placed in their hands. We think it will be admitted by the suffragists themselves their cause is stronger in this village thau in any other part of the Traverse región ; but the ballot taken on Monday shows that not more thau one in five of our women desire to vote ; and, as indicated above, we think an accurate enumeration of the suffragists and antisuffragists would materially reduce the proportion of the former."
