A gentleman of our acquaintance aged aboul 50 took the cara tor a long ride. Hu secured a good seat in a not crowded car, and put thurein his bag and various other convenieuces. After some bours ba lett his seat for refreshnients, leaving ampie evidenoe therein of lts occupaney. Ou returning tü the train, he found a higbly-finished womau sitting in his place, und in the uiidst of what Western people would caü his plunder. He paused at the entranco, and looked wistfuüy at the woman. " Do you wish anytbing, sir ?" "Yes, madam, iny curpot-bag, if you please. Thank you !" He still waited and lookod. " Is there anything else, sir '(" " Yes, niddam, uiy umbrella, if you please Ah- thank you !" Still waiting in a respectful attitude, the lady grew restless" la tbere anything more ?" " Yes madam, I will take my cano, and the papera wbiob I fear you are sitting upon." These were hastily offered, and as the gentleman still stood rpspeotfully at the entrauce, she turued upoa him, witb gome empüeksis : " Well, sir what elso are you waiting for r "Madam, I was waiting to hear you say, ' Thaiik you for the seat !' "
