The Democratie State Comtnittoe of Illinois, in iasuing the oall for the coming State Convention, has dono what it can to bring the party in that State back to rirst principies. It not only invites the co-operation of all men regardless of past political affiliation, but it specifically calis for delegates who desire to proinoto the following purpose : 1. Kestoration of gold and silver as the basis of tlio currency; th speedy resumption of specie payments and the payment of all national indebtedness in money recognized in the world. 2. Free commerce. 3. Individual liberty and opposition to sumptuary laws. 4. Kigid restriction of tho Government, both State and national, to the legitímate domain of political power, by excluding them from all executive and legislativo mtermeddling with the affairs of society whereby monopolies are fostered, privileged classes agprrandized, and individual freedom unnecesBarily and onpressively restrained. '). The right and duty ot the State to protect lts citizens trom extortion and unjiist discriminatioii by chartered monopolie. The ternis of the cali are indorsed by A. C. Hessino, a member (until he recentiy refused to serve longer) of the Eepublican State Committee; Herman ter, ot tlie (Staats Zcitung, Eepublican ex-Senator Doolittle, A. R. Mattison, of the Time, and by other prominent men not actively identified with the Democracy. Ex-Gov. Palmer has also written a letter which places him upon the samo platform. - ■ It is iiow officially announced that the section of the new postal law which provides for the circulation of newspapers in the county whcre published, free of poatage, took effect on the first day of July ; and unoflicially anuounced, that subaoribers who have paid the poatage for this quarter can have " the little five cents 'l rofunded on application. While we have never claimed any special privileges for county subscribers or " country newspapers," but only a just graduation of rates, it is probable that no law could be passed exactly equitable, and that the arrangement reached is the nearest a satisfactory ono which could be expected. If five oents a qnarter wore to be exaoted on an Ann Arbor paper carried to Dexter or Ypsilanti, or delivered at the Ann Arbor postoffice, not less than twenty cents a quarter should be assessed and collected upon a New York paper delivered at the same office, and if the latter paper is to come through for fiva cents, a a premium should be paid for tha j ege of carrying the Arous. However, ] wo accept the situation. It is now in order for thosn subscribers j who stopped their local papers because they would not pay the postagej leviad , by the salary-grabbers to renew. And i the ñames of new subscribers will not be refused. Last -week we announeed that the Adrián Times had " thrown a sop to the whale," by notninating J. Websteb Chiliis, of this county, as the farmers' candidate for Seoretary of State ; and now comes the Hastings Banner, and says : " It is with no ordinary satisfaction that we learn that the able and accomplished farmer statesman, J. Webster Childs, of Washtenaw County, will oonsent to accept tho nomination as the Eepublican candidate for the office of Secretary of State." But the Times and the Banner and Childs are not to have it all their own way so easily, for here is the Northern dranger, saying : " We learn that Hon. J. Webster Childs, of Washtenaw County, has finally consented to allow his name used in connection with the Gongrcssional nominalion in the second district." Can anybody teil us " under which thimblo the little joker is :-"' - Perhaps Mr. Ciiujis will sit quietly by and perrait his naiae and reputation i (ana position as a íarmer) to be traded [ upon for the benefit of politicians who i care nothiug for him. AVe shall see. The following natned gentlemen are ■ hereby advised that they constitute the Democratie County Committee : K. E. Frazer, Chairman, W. H. Hwkins, J. J. Robison, Orrin Thatcher, Petor Tuite, J. D. Corey, ani Myron Webb. They are further advised that a cali for a County Convention should be made at an early date, to pleet delegates to State and Congressional ConventionR. The campaign cali has boen sounded by the State Committeo. In nu Wayne Circuit Court, on Tuesday, an order was entcred giving E. V. Cicott special leave to file an information in the nature of a quo warranto, oq his own relation, to inquire by what warrant or authority David E. Harbaitou holds and exercises the office of Pólice Justico of the city of Detroit, etc. An anti-prohibition State Maas Convention has been called to be held in Detroit on the 12th day of August, at 11 o'clock A. ir., to effect a more permanent and systematic orgaiiization of those favorable to the license system." Though the cali is silent the impression is current that political action is looked to, with a view to the shaping of future legislation. The Howell liepublkan, having proposed the nanie of Hon. George W. Lee, of Ypsilanti, for State Treasurer, the Courier, of this city, intimatos that the 3ervicos of Mr. Lee are wanted by the VVashtenaw Republicana in another position.
