The Adrián Presa speaking of the it cent tetuperance meeting in tbat city, at dressed by Rev. O. Whitruore, says : Rev. Mr. Whitmore innocently askct why it was that the Republican paper all at once had turned the cold shoulde to the crusadersí1 We are inclinad t think that the gentleman knows as we] as we do, and his pretended f'aith iu th honesty of the Republican party as a temperance party, is evidence of insincer ity rather than ignorance. We can in a few words teil why those papers have done as he says. It ia because Zack Chand Ier and Oo-cerior Bagley willed it. nor üagley has been twice to this city and used nis best eiforts to stop the crusade, and every partióle of life that was in the temperance nioveineut was at ouce kieked out of it. The wife of every prominent Republican politioian who had heretofore made herself conspicuouí, was silent, and ao longer anxious for crusading or prosecution. The thing was squdched, and the saloons are agaiu open and unmolested. What was done hero was done all over the State, and yet Mr. Whirmore and every other man who ipoke there last Saturday will cast his jallot this fall for a republican represenative who wili go to Lansing, if elected, ind vote to return Zaok Chandlur to the United States Senate.
