SrHlNGFlELD, Mass., July i. - Constables seized about $800 -worth of liquor in Westfield Saturday. While it was being oonveyed bere, three men in the employ of tbe owner captured it, but their horse givingout, they were obliged to abandon the property. It was again seized by the constables, but its removal from Westfield was prevented by a mob of about 100 persons, somo armed, who agreed however, that the liquor should remain in the custody of the officers. During the night the liquor was stolen and carried into Connecticut. The whole affair causes jrcat excitement in Westfield. A large foroe of State constabulary apneared here this morning and arrestad Èlisha Tobey, owner of the seized liquor, also Jack Frud, a liquor dealer and a ringleader in Saturday's riot, special officer Win. Chapman and others. Tobey was handcuffad and taken before a magstrate. All the persons thus far arrested ïave procured bail. Many more arrests will doubtless be inado. The State constables are followed by a large crowd. Westfield is in a blaze of excitement and jusiness is nearly suspended.
