Henry C. Waldron, of this city, is chairraan of the new Repubhcan Congressional Committee for this district. W. W. Wines is now in New York, and Wines & Worden consequently ad vise the Aeous raaders to " make ready." - We are still waitiug patiently('r) for a response to a largo number of bilis recently sent to subscribers. Our needs are great. - P. H. Abel left for New York on Monday morning last, which indicates that Bach & Abej will soon be in running order for the fall campaign. - We have yet a littlo vacant space "to Iet" in our advertising columns, and business men who want customers should make haste to order it filled. -We noticed a man in town on Monday who having disposed of a load of watermelons was in a very happy condition. Is watermolon juice ïntojncatiug ? - Dr. Brodie, of Detroit, gave ns a cali yesterday. He was in our city attending the reunion of the First Michigan Infantry, of which regiment he was surgeon. - Col. J. W. Horner, formerly of this State and a gradúate of the Uniyersity, class of '58, died in the Kansas Insano Asy.lum, on the 15th uut He had many friends in this city. - The work of poiutiug up and penciling the new Congregational Church is approaching completion, and the stagings will soon be removed, wheu a beautif ul exterior will be shown. - The Marshal of Dexter has given notice that "all cattle and liorses fouud running at iarge will be driven to pound." Couldn't the Ann Arbor City Marshal be directed to give a like notice ? Whatsiythe " City Fathers ï" - The Rev. Father Van Jenip, for 16 years in charge of the Catholic Church at Dexter, concluded his labors there on Sunday last, having been transferred to Alpena. His successor is Father Slatterly, a young pnest from Detroit. - Rev. G. D. Gillespie, of this city, is nanied as one of the candidates for Bishop of the new diocese created by a división of this State. He would fül the bill in the fullest sense, but the congregation of St. Andrew's of this city would find his gain their loss. - C. H. Millen returned from New York on Tuesday moraing, and his purchases will speodily follow him. He reports the New Yorkers looking for better times. Let 'em come this way. P. S. You will buy. - A special township meeting is to be held in Soio (at Allport's Exchange, Dexter), on the 5th of September, commencing at 9 o'clock A. H., to vote upon a proposition to raise $1,500 by tax or lon, for the building of a bridge across Mili Creek, near Evarts & Co. 's mili. Not a day too soon. Oliver Stark, Augusta. Charles Thayer, Ann Arbor City. The First Michigan Infantry held its annual reunión at Cook's Hotel in this city yesterday. About 50 members were present. Gen. W. A. Throop was President and Lient. John Goring, Secretary. At the business meeting at 2 o'clock P. M., the following officer8 were elected : President- Maj. Geo. C. Hopper, Detroit. Vice Presidents- Col. Geo. Lockley, East Saginaw; Capt. H. C. Christiancy, Monroe; Quartermaster D. A. Wise, Ypsilanti; CaptE. B. Gnffith, Jacksou ; Private W. A. Edwards, Schoolcraft. Secretary and Treasurer- Ajt. Frank Raymond, Detroit. Historian- Chaplain Arthur Edwards, Chicago. Executive Coramittee- Surgeon Wm. Brodie, Detroit; Capt. C. Spencer, Ypsilanti; Capt. John T. Griffiu, Detroit. In takiug the chair the new President, Maj. Hopper, said he always served the regiment M directed, in the field or in camp, but never telt so xnuch hke backing out as now. Accustomed, however, to obey, he accepted the honor ossigned to him. Detroit was fixed upon as the place for holding the next reunión, and the date fixed for October 7th, 1876. Tne Bupper carne off iu the evening, Gen Throop ofneiating as Toast Master, but we were compelled to go to press too early for a report. The " boys" were having a social time during the afternoou.
