From the Lumberman's Gazette. There Í8 nothing of special moment to report in the lumber market this week, further than that the general indications continue favorable for an improvement in time. The milis on the river are closing up on the end of their stocks with great rapidity, the great bulk of the logs have come ont of the Tittabawassee, the principal source of supply of the river, and nereafter the delivery from the boom will be of the leavings, which have not been reached before in some years. The general feeling is that, though the trade continúes dull in sympathy with all other business, yet the business is on a good basis for ths future. The old logs are all out of the way, and the 'óperations in the woods will inevitably be much curtailed this winter by the financial stress, should there be no concerted and organized efïort to keep down the log cutting. The state of affairs in the other lumber districts being similar, there is no reason to doubt that the supply for next year will be very largely reduced. This will be somewhat affected, though not largely, in this section by the necessity of cutting some timber through which forest fires have run ; but making the largest allowance for this, the aggregate of the óperations will be small compared with the usual cut. The stock of lumber on the river docks here is much lower probably than is generally supposed, people having been led to exaggerated estimates by the loud complaints of dullness of demand and short shipments. The latter, as has been apparent from the comparativo statements we have given from time to time, have run ahead of the corresponding periods last year, notwithstanding the unsatisfactory conditions of the business. - n - - Make arrangements and get ready to examine one of the largest and best selected stocks of Dress Goods, Cloths, Trimmings, Carpets, Oil Cloths, Shawls, Gloves, Hosiery, ace, for fall and winter, ever brought to this market. iiJi They are coming. We mean business. WINES & WORDEN. No. 20 South Main strect.
