The following resolutions wero adoptec at the recent sessions of the Detroit Con ference (M. E.) held at Koineo : FirKf - The manufacture, sale and use of' alooholic drinks compose a complex system of iniquity, subtle, infernal anc essentially damaging to eveiy interest o humanity, in conflict with all jast princi pies of government, both human and di vine ; and in more thoroughly organiza autagonism to the church of God than any other publio evil which now so shame lt-ssly defies the light of Christian civili zation. lts legitímate fruit is ignonince irreligión, poverty, crime, shame, tempor al and eternal death. Second - ïhis abominable system of evi constitutes a species of oompound felony of which the maker, vendor, consumer and the indifferent looker-on must share the guilt and consequences. Third - By far the greatest and inom difficult social problem of the age is how to termínate the reign of tbis chronic horrid eustom of usiug these deadly beverages Fourtli - The romedies are two : voluntary total abstinehce from all intoxioating liquors, as the rule of personal duty, and absolute, cffective, legal suppression oi the whole drunkard-making trade, as the imperious duty of the government. Fifth - The social conditions necessary to the application of the aforesaid remedies are, a more thoroughly enlightened and properly organized public sentiment ; indicating a coutinued and wiser use oí the pulpit, the platform, the press and ihe ballot for the ultímate cure of this fretting leprosy of the body politie. Si.rfh - The recent extensive revival of temperance sentiment, both in Europe rad in this country, is a hopeful indication that the moral and roligious masses are being moved by the Holy Spirit to assert the rights of the long suffering and too putient'people against the usurpat.ions and heartless cruelties of the jrogshop, thorefore Retolved, That, confiding in the unfailt)g promise of Jehovah, that the wickedness of the wicked shall come to an end, wo will continue the prayerful and faith'ul use of all appropriate meaos, as opjortunity muy be affoided ug, for the (Omplffte, spceily and universal triumph af the tomperauce reform. The General Superintendent of the Jake Shore and Michigan Southern, ïas inaugurated a reform, which canaot fail to commend itself to the public.
