The Democratie Convention for the First Eepresentative District of this county, was held at the Court House in this city, on Friday last, at 2 o'clock p. m. The convention was called to order by E. B. Pond, chairman of the District Committee, and organized by the election of E. B. Pond, as President, and J. M. Forsyth, as Secretary. A Committee on Credentials wan appointed, which reported the list of delegates in attendance, which report was acoepted and adopted, and thereafter the convention proceeded to ballot for a candidate for Bepresentative, with the following result : For Edward King, 10 " Isaac Wynkup, 2 Whereupon, Edward King was unanimously declared nominated. The following District Committee was appointed : Messrs. C. H. Kichmond, Jno. Gilbert, and C. J. Kintner. The convention then adjourned sine A OEEAT MAST bug-bear stories are current, auch as : this candidate is to be out because he is an Irishman ; this one because he is a Germán ; this one because he is neither an Irishman or Germán ; this one because he belongs to " the Duffy Eing" - an indefinito sort of a charge; this one because some friend, a Supervisor, voted for Duffy, for Superintendent, or because he didn't interfere, without reason, to prevent Duffy's re-election ; and this one because some other man wasn't nominated. Turn a deaf ear to all such rumors, and another deaf ear to the numerous stories that this, that, or the other candidate is " trading off." If you are a Democrai beware of " ways that are dark and tricks that are vain," and vota the Democratie ticket as nominated, unless you are fully convinced that a partioular candidate is either incompetent or morally unfit. There are none such on the Democratie ticket. A Chicago paper, discussing " Printers - their Habits and Peeuliarities,'' says of ihe ladies of the craft ■ " Perhapa the contrast is most marked in the matter of matrimony. While the ordinary typo is oareless of, if not actually opposed to, married life, this olass always views any prospect of its secural with the ntmo8t favor. In fact many of them indícate plainly, in a thousand unmistakable little ways, that they long for the day wheu they shall become the better half of a dual existenoe. As a general rule, the lady printers are good, steady workers - the only misfortune in connection with them being that, just as thev become really useful, they suddenly disappear from the case, and are seen there no more." And this very fact - and not a dishonorable one - regulates the work and the wages of women more than can the ballot, and will despite the ballot. The man marrying has the more need to pursue, and with new zeal and vigor, his trade, oalling, or profeasion. The woman marrying, marries out of her trade ïhis almost general and irreversible rule induces woman to edúcate horself for a trade less thoroughly, aud of courae disqualifies her for the best places and highest wages. The woman suffragiats, or those who see in woman surffage the panacea for every evil, have forgotten the inimitable laws of natuje. Eoeebt E. Prazeb has had experience as Prosecuting Attorney, and made a good one, discharging the not alwaya pleasant duties of thü office without fear or favor. Hia legal qualiñcations are unquestionable, and his nomination by a large and intelligent convention was an indoraement of his fitness for a most reaponsible office, as well as of his political standing. Give him your vote. Waldhon is a " discriminating tariÉf" man. He voted to reduoe the tariff on wool, in accordance with the demanda of party, and refused to vote for a corresponding decrease of the tariff on woolen fabrica and other manufactured articles used by the farmer. What say the farmers and wool-growets of Washtenaw County to Buch discrimination ? As THE County Canvassera do not meet until the Tueaday following the election, we hope that some friend in each town will give the Arous the oorrect figures, by mail, the day after the election, so that full and correct returns may be published in the next issue. Mark the exact vote for each candidate on a pair of tickets. If YOU are a Democrat, don't scratch the name of a Democratio candidate, unless you believe or know that he is unqualified or unfit, incompetent or dishonest, and that his opponent is the better man for the office.
