-The Washington Evemng atar saya : The new one dollar legal-tendei note has upon the back two large oross Unes, which form almost the Eoinau figure ten. To the unpracticed handler of inoney, a mere glanoe to the reverse side would indícate that it represented on its back ten times the value of its face. In the South the colored people in inany instanoea have received them for ten dollar bilis, and the Treasury is advised that quite a profitable business has been oarried on by soine scamps in thig way. These reports are supported by the collateral evidenoe whioh is furnished through the large number of bilis of large denomination which have been changed with ones, at the request of Bouthern correspondent8, by the United States Treasury. In Canada it is said, the note for this reason, is refused altogether, and a large number are daily received at the Troasury for exchange into other notes. " Dear Jon - cornet afpastate," was the precise form of a billet doux which an Oswego girl sent to her lover the other night.
