Cramer ; cause: he won }jO of Beal'8 money on the election. - The Rector of the Episcopal Church having rcturned will officiate on Sunday noxt. _- The appearance of St. Thomas' Church has been materially ïraproved by being painted and iicncilod. - John and Fred Bross, of this city, havegone to the northern part of tlie State on a huuting expedition. - The Supreme Court finislied its business and adjourned on Friday last. No decisión was rendered in the Beal-Chase case. - The ladies of St. Thomas' Church are making extensivo preparations for their coming fair, which will be held commencing Nov. 15th. - The residence of T. W. Root on Huron street, is undergoing extensivo alterations, the mai part of which is being raised to two stories. - The Rev. J. E Davis, of Macomb county, and' father of L. Davis, of Ann Arbor, now 87 vears of age, joined the Masonic fraternity in 1818. _ A new ordinance has been adopted by the Common Couucil, prohibiting the sale of liquors to minors and studeuts, which we publish in another column. -The Detroit, Eel River and Illinois Railroad Co. held its annual election on Thursday of last week. D. L. Quirk and E. F. Uhl, of Ypsilanti, were among the directors chosen. - We learn that A. G. DeForest, of Ann Ar" bortown, who was injured by his carriage ben? npset while returning from Ypsilanti some four weeks since, still lies in a critical condition. _ Prof. Tyler will deliver the next discourse at Unlversity Hall, on Suuday afternoon next, aud will be a continuation of his last Sunday's discourse- The Liie and Character of Thomas. - Míbs Lulla Love, daughter of the editor of the Northeru Chnstian Advocate, and a gradúate of the Medical Department of the Michigan University, has been appointed a Medical Misíionary to Moradabad, India. - A few days since a satohel was stolen from the office of the Gregory House. The supposed tliief has been arrested at Three Rivers, with the satchel in his possession, and brought back to this city and lodged in jail. - The Democracy held a jollification meetieg last eveuiug at the Court House, the room being filled to overflowing. Speeches were made btfov. Felch, R. E. Krazer, E. F. Uhl, of Ypsilanti, D. Cramer, and others. The greatest enthusiasin prevailed. - Albert Sorg, while engaged in painting on the Catholic church in this city, Thursday last, met with a severe accident. The ladder on which he was standing was overturned by a sudden gust of wind, and he feil over twenty feet, seriously iujunng his foot. - The Common Council on Monday evening allowed bilis, payable from the several funds, in the following amounts : General fund, $420 82 ; general street fund, f 80 88 ; First ward $90 88 ; Second ward, $37 91 ; Third ward, $30 75 ; Fourth ward, $26 85 ; Fifth ward, $5 75 ; Siith ward, $4 58. -The Supreme Court on Friday last, in the case of The People vs. The Board of Re. gnents : application for mandamus for the appointment of two homeopathie professors in the Medical Department of the University, was disposed of by the following decisión : " The very able argument in this case has not brought any member of the court to any different views from those heretofore sufficiently expressed, and we therefore make uo order." The report of Marshal Loveland shows the number of arrests made, for the quarter ending Nov. lst, as follows : Drunk and disorderly, 22 Common drunkards, 6 Indecent exposure of person, 1 Assault and battery, 8 Breach of the peace and disorderly conduct, 11 Trespass, 2 Keeping saloon open on Sunday, 3 Breach of Ordinance at the depot, 3 Selling intoxiuating liquor to drunkards and tiplers, 3 Larceny, 3 Uslng profane language, 1 Saloon opeu after eleven o'clock p.
