The gelatinous matte often found upon the Btonea o a well is poison to the human sys tem, probably causing by its spure a fermentation of the blood, wit the abnormal heat of fever. Wholesom untainted water, is always free from a color and ordor. To test it thoroughl; place in it a few grains of lump suga and exposé it, stoppered, to sunlight, in window. If, even after an exposure o eight or ten days, the water become tur bid, be sure that it has been contaminal ed by sewage of some kind. If it re inains perfectly clear, it is pure and safe
