At St. Joseph, New Brunswick, a genlOmnn natned Bertreaux, sojouming at he Victoria Hotel, waa severely injured ne other evening through his too great eal to celébrate the advent of the lunar elipse. He had prepared a cartridge of ynamite, which he proposed exploding n a yard underneath his window, He ceordingly leaned out on the sill and ighted the tissue paper fuse, but, as the atter burnt more rapidly inside than ut, the flre penetrated the cartridge beore he was aware, and the dynamite exloded. Mr. Bertreaux's hand was shattered at he wrist joint and blown into a thousand rieces. His left arm near tha elbow was lso badly bruised, his right eye and chin lightly injured, and he reeeived a severo gash in the left cheek, apparently rom a piece of the bone of the hand. lis sufferings for a time were exernciating. A friend who was standing beïind him suffered also from the shock. The concussion and flash of flame have resulted in an injury to his sight which calis for his SRclusion from the light. Another gentleman who was present was cnocked by the recoil clear across the room, his sense of hearing being somewhat impaired. A fourth person was also in the room, but suatained no damage. -Several articles of furniture were overturned by the shock, and a large ïole blown into the window-sill. The cartridge used was about two and a half nches in longth and an inch thick, with a small cap at one end, to which the fuse of tissue paper was attached.
