Tho Indianopolis Sentinel sayg : In Michigan the contest was a square one on the financial question. The Dernoorats wero firm for specie payments, and the Kepublicans rejected a resolution of that nature when offered in the convention. The resnlt ia most gratifying. The Democrats are sure of large gains in the Congressional delegation. Considenng the fact that Michigan ranks with Iowa and Massachu8etts as a Eepublican stronghold, this hard money triumph is the greatest won on Tuesday. Bagley, who is now claiming eleotion by 5,000 majority, was chosen two years ago by 57,088 majority. Judging from this fact and the result in New Tork and Massachusetts, gold is a good foundation for a platform. The Utioa llerald says : " Nothing is to be gained by understanding tho oxtent and the consequences of the Republican defoat in New York State. It will be more disastrous beoauae the conviction is so settled in the minds of the best men in the party, that there was neither the wish nor the intention to save the Goveruor on the part of those who assumed to be the Republinan leaders and managers. It is the moro disastrous beeause of the accuinulating evidence that but for this default on the part of those from whom most was rightfully expected, Gen. Dix could and would have been re-elected Govprnor, by a handsoine majority. But Gen. Dix was made a sacrifice. The consequences will be upon the whole Republican party in the State. The friends of the Governor, who are not few, will uot very soon forget tho canvass of 1874."
