Ftom the New York Timee. Utiorge H. Mix, who was indicted for stealing $1,100 wprth of real lace from tho store of H. B. Clafliu & Co., and pleatted guilty, was brought up for sentenco in the General Sessions yeBterday. The circunistances in this case have already been publiehed in tbe Times, bul being of an extraordinary nature wil] bear repetition. Mix is oí' the most respectable connections, and the son of a wealthy banker in Hartford, Conn., who at his death bequeathed the prisoner an estáte said to be wortli $250,000. The trustees of the estáte allowed Mix $1,500 a year to live on, bat this sum proved inadequate to gratify his tastea. Some time ago he was arrested in the Gilsey House for swindling, but through the intersessioD of his family was saved from State Prison. A short time ago Mix again entered this city, and on the strength of forged letters of recommendations from a number of prominent oitizens, obtained a situation as salesmam in the laoe department of Claflin's. On the 9th inst., he disappeared, and it was ascertained that $1,100 worth of lace had been stolen. The prisoner was arrested, nd informed the detectives where he had seoreted the stolen property. In his trunk were found a number of forged letters of recommendation to bankers in San Francisco and other places. On being brought to the bar Mix wept bitterly and piteously pleaded for mercy. Recorder Hackett said that the prisoner had brought disgraoe on his family and connections by his conduct, and deserved no sympathy. The sentence of the court was that he be confined in State Prison at hard labor for five years.
