siderably agitated over the comparativo merits of the reservoir and Holly water works systera, a portion claiming that a reservoir would furmsh inadequate or no protection against fire without tho intervention or aid of engines. Grand Rapids has a reservoir, and a letter from a prominent citizen oí that city, dated the 8th inst., says : " We had a splendid trial of our reservoir mains and hydrants a few days since. A fire broke out in the solid block opposite our bank about midnight, and in a few minutes we had twelve solid streams pouring into it, ten from reservoir pressure and two from steamers. The steamers soon retired disgusted, and lef t the fight to the reservoir. The verdict is that our works paid for themselves that night." Ann Arbor can get the same or greater height of reservoir and equal or greater pressure, and with a less length of supply pipe. Ann Aeboe, December 8th, 1874. The undersigned would most respectfully cali the attention of bis many friends and patrons throughout the county to the contemplated change in hia business, to take effect January lst, 1875. I have coucluded to dispense with the credit system and establish in lts stead a cash system, on the first of the Neto Year. I will open an entire new, clean, and fresh stock of goods, bought from first hands for cash, consisting of a full line of Groceries and Provisions, Boots, Shoes, and India Rubber Goods, Hosiery and Gentlemen's Furnishing Goods, together with a full line of Wooden, Willow, and Stone Ware, which will te sold for Cash, and Cash only, at from ten to fifteen per cent lower than any house in Washtenaw county can sell them for on the Credit System. An inspection and comparison of goods and prices under the new mode %is solicited and I will insure satisfaction. Respectfully yours, &c,
