The Gorman Governinent has, since the war with France, ooined new gold coins and put them into ciroulation to the amount of $275,000,000. Prior to this issue of gold coin there was in circulation about $375,000,000 silver money, which had previously sufficed for all the wants of the country. The effect of putting the gold coin into circulation while the silver was still out, was that the price of silver feil suddenly, and gold was at a premium. There are still, af ter two years' effort to retire it, $100,000,000 of this silver money still afloat, and as silver is the cheapest, everybody uses it to the exelusion of gold, and gold coutinues steadily to be exported.
