THE ARGUS FOR 1815. With thiH issue the Aiious enten upon a new year and volume, and, lacking one numbor, completes the first three months pubüoatlon by the present publishers. Wo entered upon the duties of publishers of the ARGUS comparativoly inexperiencod in the editorial management of a newspaper, but havo striven to make it a good local and family paper. How wall we have suooeeded we leave our readers to decide. But froin the numerous expreasions of satisfaction receivcd from our subscribers, personally and by letters, and by many favorable notices from our biothron of the press, wo feel onoouragod. The announcement of our dacision to adopt the CASH IN ADVANCE system mcets the approval of nearly all our subscribers, and is the only true way ot successfully conducting a newspaper- for a paper that is worth taking is worth paying for. It gives the publishers the rueuiis with which to do business, and prevents the accumulation of largo accounts against subsoribers ; and saves a great amount of ill-feoling when a settlement ia made, or a bilí í'or the amount is sent to the person in arrears - in nearly all cases the person thinking that the account is not right. Bills have been sent to nearly all subscribers in arrears, with a notioe of our intentions and from some of whom no responses have boen received. Whether the persons roceiving sueh notices have road the same and laid thein aside to be forgotten, or whether it expresses a desiro to have their paper stopped, wo know not, but without hearing anything we will accept the latter and act aocordingly. Among the names are some who have taken the ARQUS for many years, and we would like to retaiu thein on our lists, but do not wish to have the name of any porson who does not tlesire it. The names of many new subscribers have been added to the list since our accession as publishers ; and some have withdrawn, among whoiu aro some of the "old stand-bys" of the Angustiarnos with which wo have becoine familiar from our long connection with the office - and with the loss of whoui it seems like parting with friends, but we presumo that every man knows his own business ; but we hope to soon have their names again on our books. We shall strive to continue to inake the Argus a leading paper, and will make improvements as tast as the patronage accorded to it will warrant. We feel that the Argus is entitled to a largely increased circulation. It should be taken by every family in Washtenaw county, and to aid in extending our cimulation, and to carry out the pay in advance system, we have concluded to fix the price of the Argfs at $1.50 por yoar to all. At thia prico cannot each of our subscribers obtain and Bend us at least one new name? Without any desire to parade our affairs before our readers, we will say that our business has been fully up to our expeotations. In the line of' job printing our business has been in exoess of our expectations, judging froru the oloseness of the times. Por the favors of our friends we feel grateful, and hope to continue to receive tlieir patronage. With these few remarks we close with a Happy New Year to all.
