S A review of the cattle market shows leas changes in the pricas ruling tor the year, comparad with the years 1873 and 1872. In the prosperous seasou of 1872 oattle of a choice quality brought no higher prices than to-day. The qualities continue about the same, farmers selling stock before maturity, owirjg to the high prices realized by the sale of hay, graiu and fodder genejally. The nog market has presented a study to operators in that line. It was firmly anticipated that prices would decline to at least the rulings of the former year ; consignments being speedily closed out at figures ranging trom 16 to $7, according to quality. Pnces ruled in 1872 from $3 to $4, and in 1873, Y3 60 to $4 50. Qualities improved rapidly this year. Consignments were closed out this week at $6 40 to Í6 80 for extra choice, and ó 50 to $6 for choice. Pigs ruld at $ 1 50 and tb. In the sheep departincnt the most gratifying pliase is the steady improvemeut in qualities. Prices realized during the year were fully up to the prosperous year 1872. üperatious in this line have also been more exteusive, owing to additional facilities for handling thoin. Choice, smooth lots cloBed out this week at $4 60 and $4 90, being about the same as realized in 1872. Medium quahties closed at $3 75 and $4 20. The bulk of transactions were in this line. Becsipts were very light, scarcely any lots of good cattle beiug olïered, but as the local trade was well stocked last week the demand was very light. The few real good cattle offered were held higher. Nominal quotations are : Choice beeves, shipsiug steers and heifers, weighiug from 1,200 to 1,600 lbs $4 00a6 00 Good butchers' steers and heifers, averaging 1,000 to 1,100 lbs. . 3 00a3 75 W orking oxen, well fattened, averaging 1,000 to 1,600 lbs. . 3 50a4 25 Cows, common to choice . . 3 25a4 00 Stockers' and packers' medium steers and heifers, m decent flesh, 800 to 1,000 lbs. ... 2 50a3 50 SHEEP. Very few were offered ; the demand was f uil better. The ouly sale uoted was that of 105 fat little sheep, averaging 80 lbs. sold by Edward Sheldon, at 4 l-4c.
